2 things I would like too add
1. You didn’t react to g3. You reacted to the short lived generation known as g3.5
2. The weird bug-pony is actually the original breezes. When it comes to stuff from g1, g3, and g3.5 it’s either use em or lose em. For example, Somnambula’s name used to belong to a g1 witch antagonist. They just used the most Egyptian name and found a way to make sense. ( the original Somnambula got her name from using hypnosis which puts people in a sleep-like state, and since sonambulism means sleepwalking, it sorta fits since the new g4 Somnambula walked over a bridge blindfolded, it is kinda the same thing as sleepwalking, hence the name).
other examples would be Tirek, the ooze, and even the mane six were even inspired by original g1 ponies and the personalities Lauren Faust gave them when growing up. The best example being applejack, who looks almost identical to her g1 version.
At least the Breezies here look better than those ABOMINATIONS in G4. Honestly, was Hasbro even THINKING?
