To be fair, on the O.C. Marissa and Alex kissed multiple times and had an actual relationship.
"Superficial sexual experimentation." That's what rubs me the wrong way about Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl." She feels to need to reassure us in the lyrics that she still has a boyfriend so it's not like she's gay or anything; she's just aiming for cheap titillation.
As a Trekkie, I'm biased, but I want to say that the DS9 "lesbian kiss episode" handled the subject better than most. At least in that case, Dax was the one who was committed to continuing her same-sex relationship; it was the other woman who rejected her.
